HiSET® Exams Discontinued in Texas Starting September 1, 2021
Please note the HiSET exams will be discontinued in Texas starting September 1, 2021. Therefore, the last day students can take any of the HiSET exams is August 31, 2021.
The HiSET® exam is one of 3 high school equivalency credentials that helps adult learners achieve their college and career goals. The General Educational Development (GED®)(also offered at our test center through Pearson Vue) and the Test Assessing Secondary Completion® (TASC™) are the other options. Currently, Texas offers its residents the choice of 2 of the three tests to meet the state’s high school equivalency credential.
The HiSET exam consists of the following subtests:
Reading (English) = 65 Minutes
Reading (Spanish) = 80 Minutes
Writing = 120 Minutes
Social Studies = 70 Minutes
Science = 80 Minutes
Math = 90 Minutes
Scheduling your exam
Once you are ready to take the test, you can schedule your testing appointment in one of two ways:
To reschedule your appointment, call an ETS representative at 1-855-MyHiSET (1-855-694-4738) or contact your test center. Read the policies on rescheduling, canceling or retaking the test included on the Texas HiSET page.
You must contact ETS to schedule your appointment if you:
- Have a disability or health-related need and require accommodations. Contact ETS Disability Services.
When you register for your exam, you will be able to select a test center location. Choose Southwest Houston Test Center to take the exam with us.
